Summary

I'm not incredible fond of Hemingway's work。 However, this novel reminded me of The Great Gatsby in similarity to positions of power and wealth。 I felt like this was an alternate ending of Jordan and Nick or Daisy and Gatsby。1/5 ⭐️ I'm not incredible fond of Hemingway's work。 However, this novel reminded me of The Great Gatsby in similarity to positions of power and wealth。 I felt like this was an alternate ending of Jordan and Nick or Daisy and Gatsby。1/5 ⭐️ 。。。more

My first time reading Hemingway。 I was pumped。 Big disappointment。 I hated every single thing about this book。 I feel bad saying that because I feel somewhat responsible to say I at least liked it because it was Hemingway, but I just can't。 My first time reading Hemingway。 I was pumped。 Big disappointment。 I hated every single thing about this book。 I feel bad saying that because I feel somewhat responsible to say I at least liked it because it was Hemingway, but I just can't。 。。。more

This book is about the malaise of life when all needs are met, as such it is the single best piece of fiction I have ever read。。。 given that I will never live in a world where I decide to take a trip to Spain while mildly drunk with my situationship and not worry about money at all while eating out every single meal。Decent enough prose from Hemingway, captures a unique period in history that seems as alien as any scifi book I've ever read。 This book is about the malaise of life when all needs are met, as such it is the single best piece of fiction I have ever read。。。 given that I will never live in a world where I decide to take a trip to Spain while mildly drunk with my situationship and not worry about money at all while eating out every single meal。Decent enough prose from Hemingway, captures a unique period in history that seems as alien as any scifi book I've ever read。 。。。more

A warm summer afternoon。 You’re sitting in the living room with all the windows and doors open so to keep the sun-lit room cool with a gentle breeze。 With you sits that uncle of yours; the storyteller。 The one which makes everyone’s ears perk up whenever he speaks。 Today he’s telling you of his ventures to Parisian cafes and that time he drunk 7 days straight through a Spanish fiesta。His words make you think with deeper appreciation about the simple: the slow afternoon, the warm sunlight and the A warm summer afternoon。 You’re sitting in the living room with all the windows and doors open so to keep the sun-lit room cool with a gentle breeze。 With you sits that uncle of yours; the storyteller。 The one which makes everyone’s ears perk up whenever he speaks。 Today he’s telling you of his ventures to Parisian cafes and that time he drunk 7 days straight through a Spanish fiesta。His words make you think with deeper appreciation about the simple: the slow afternoon, the warm sunlight and the gentle breeze and a good story。Good read, thanks papa 。。。more

Here’s the deal。。I assume this book was a literary work of art for its time, but my goodness is it the furthest thing from that now。 I graciously gave this 2 stars because it’s Ernest Hemingway and I’m not about to tarnish the man by going all the way to 1。 This book was just dreadful。 It was as anticlimactic as watching paint dry or of me writing a book about everything I did in a week。 No one wants to know the mundane and boring details of another’s life。 We want excitement or least of all for Here’s the deal。。I assume this book was a literary work of art for its time, but my goodness is it the furthest thing from that now。 I graciously gave this 2 stars because it’s Ernest Hemingway and I’m not about to tarnish the man by going all the way to 1。 This book was just dreadful。 It was as anticlimactic as watching paint dry or of me writing a book about everything I did in a week。 No one wants to know the mundane and boring details of another’s life。 We want excitement or least of all for a story to have a firm beginning, middle, and end with a climax。 If Robert punching Jake was the climax of this book then I’ve lived a far more exciting life than Jake ever will and it just makes this book all the more boring。Save yourself 8 hours of reading time and just light a candle stick and watch it burn to completion, it would be more exhilarating than this book。 。。。more

3。5/5I can't say that I really enjoyed this book, but it is quite good。 There are a lot of interesting gender dynamics between the main characters, but I think that it just didn't have the effect on me that it should have because I'm still recovering from reading Giovanni's Room。 I will need to return to this book in the future, I think。 3。5/5I can't say that I really enjoyed this book, but it is quite good。 There are a lot of interesting gender dynamics between the main characters, but I think that it just didn't have the effect on me that it should have because I'm still recovering from reading Giovanni's Room。 I will need to return to this book in the future, I think。 。。。more

For me, measured against Hemingway's other great novels, "The Sun Also Rises" is not in the same league。 And that may not be entirely fair。 The book is now almost a century old and time has taken some toll。 He was writing about a post WW I generation。 In the context of that suffering; the decadent, hard-drinking, uncaring attitudes that prevail are probably understandable。 The characters and book itself seem to drift aimlessly through several weeks of European holiday。 Although you can see the m For me, measured against Hemingway's other great novels, "The Sun Also Rises" is not in the same league。 And that may not be entirely fair。 The book is now almost a century old and time has taken some toll。 He was writing about a post WW I generation。 In the context of that suffering; the decadent, hard-drinking, uncaring attitudes that prevail are probably understandable。 The characters and book itself seem to drift aimlessly through several weeks of European holiday。 Although you can see the makings of a brilliant writer, I don't think he's there yet。 。。。more

An amazing story depicting just how impactful WW1 had been to those who lived through it, how the shadow of the war left those who survived it completely different people with transformed ideals, morals, and belief in humanity。 One of my favorite quotes from the book - “The world was a good place to buy in。 It seemed like a fine philosophy。 In five years, I thought, it will seem just as silly as all the other fine philosophies I've had。" An amazing story depicting just how impactful WW1 had been to those who lived through it, how the shadow of the war left those who survived it completely different people with transformed ideals, morals, and belief in humanity。 One of my favorite quotes from the book - “The world was a good place to buy in。 It seemed like a fine philosophy。 In five years, I thought, it will seem just as silly as all the other fine philosophies I've had。" 。。。more

Physical book | dribble 。 A privileged bigot drunk ramble-writing about other privileged drunks with a couple trout and bulls thrown in。 Also, The real romance was between Jake and Bill。 Might have made for a better book, even if just about their friendship。 This book makes me wonder:Who, in the history of literature, ‘decides’ what is a ‘classic’ and what is not? I have a sneaky suspicion that it wasn’t women and people of color。
